Flat peaches

Flat peaches

Look out for these squat little numbers in the shops and markets from June onwards. They are a relatively new import to these shores but if you are a regular traveller to southern Europe they will be a familiar sight. I am so often disappointed with the regular peaches I buy here- rock hard for ages then all of a sudden mouldy and sadly lacking that heady peachy perfume. Not so the flat peach. Maybe I have always been lucky with my choice but they never seem to disappoint. Full of flavour and super juicy they are a mainstay of the summer fruit bowl.
